A woman held hostage for seven hours by Brian Nichols says she kept the image of her five-year-old daughter's face in her mind during the ordeal.
In the words of Ashley Smith, "I just told him that she didn't have a daddy anymore. If he killed me, then she wouldn't have a mommy either."
She made the comments on C-B-S's "Today' show."
Smith's husband died four years ago after being stabbed in Augusta.
Smith -- who had just moved into the apartment in Gwinnett County -- said Nichols finally let her leave the apartment to go see her daughter, who was at a church function.
Smith says Nichols told her on her way out to say hello to her daughter for her.
