Florida Governor's Race

In the Florida Governor's race, Jeb Bush becomes the first Republican ever to win re-election.

Bush retains his seat with 56 percent of the votes, to challenger Bill McBride’s 43 percent. Bush is also only the third republican elected Florida governor since the 1870s.

President Bush called his brother Jeb on Tuesday night to congratulate him on his re-election victory. In the telephone call, the president characterized it as a "big victory" and said he was proud of his brother and of the campaign he ran.

He called from the White House residence, where he was watching election coverage after having dinner with Republican congressional leaders.
