One Wiregrass police chief is behind bars and charged with the highest level of assault.
Authorities have told News 4 that Kinston’s Police Chief Jason Craig Haynes is behind bars after severely assaulting his wife.
Opp authorities were reportedly called to Myzell Community Hospital Friday after Haynes’s wife, 29-year old Jennifer Haynes, arrived there for treatment.
Authorities say she had been injured for what seemed like a couple of days.
By the time Mrs. Haynes arrived at the hospital, Craig was out of town.
The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Department was notified and arrested him until Covington County sheriff's deputies could transfer him back to the area on Saturday.
He is being held in the Covington County Jail on a $200,000 bond, and has been relieved of his duties.
Mrs. Haynes has been released from the hospital.
