Alabama's state trooper force has 45 additional men and women. They took the oath of office as law officers in Montgomery on Tuesday at a graduating ceremony.
Presently, there are 378 troopers assigned to patrol about 94,000 miles of Alabama's highways. By the end of 2003, plans are to have 210 new state troopers ready for duty.
A $5.6 million grant to cover the salaries of new state troopers.
