Federal authorities have examined the scene of a deadly liquor store shooting in Montgomery searching for links to the Washington-area sniper attacks.
Montgomery Police Chief John Wilson said it's too soon to declare a connection, but he's optimistic the cases may be solved.
Wilson met with reporters Thursday morning and said a composite sketch of the Montgomery gunman, who was almost caught by police officers in a foot chase after the Sept. 21 shooting, has "very good similarities" to John Lee Malvo, one of two men sought by the sniper task force.
Two men were arrested earlier Thursday in the sniper investigation but their names were not released.
Wilson said the gun used in the Montgomery shooting was not the same caliber as the weapon used in the Washington-area attacks. He also said the Montgomery assault was a robbery or an attempted robbery, unlike the sniper case.
Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright also said Malvo's fingerprint was found on a weapons publication in connection with the Alabama investigation.
Fifty-two-year-old Claudine Parker and 24-year-old Kellie Adams were locking up the liquor store for the night when they were shot. Parker was killed and Adams seriously injured.
