Adoption Scam

An Elmore County woman and her mother admit offering the daughter's twin infant boys as bait in a nationwide adoption scam.

Elmore County officials say 20-year-old Cherish Tarbox of Wetumpka and 42-year-old Jenny Lodge each pled guilty to three counts of theft by deception.

The women face a maximum sentence of 20 years for each charge.

Investigators say Tarbox and Lodge deceived five prospective couples out of more than 17-thousand dollars.

A judge set a sentencing hearing for March 28th.

The boys, now 15 months old, are in the care of the Department of Human Resources.
