A Wiregrass man is behind bars charged with trying to kill a longtime friend.
Investigators say 52-year-old James Neal Owens shot Ralph Mosier Tuesday night in the face with 20-gauge birdshot.
It happened outside Owens' mother's home on West Hart Avenue in Geneva.
The 44-year-old victim was transported to a Dothan area hospital in serious condition.
Geneva Police Chief Frankie Lindsey says it looks like alcohol may have played a role in the incident.
Neighbors say shortly before the shooting Mosier was yelling outside the house and they say they're "shocked" by what happened.
Several pieces of birdshot reportedly pierced Mosier's skull.
Besides attempted murder, police say Owens may face additional charges.
