Etowah County authorities have arrested a woman with capital murder in the 2003 death of her adopted 16-month-old girl.
Tonya Cate was taken into custody this week at her Gadsden home and put behind bars.
She is accused of beating to death the baby in September of 2003.
It’s taken more than 15 months before a final autopsy report was released from the crime.
Authorities say they had to wait more than a year to get the final piece of the puzzle.
Test results showed the toddler, who had been adopted by Cate and her husband, died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Cate is being held without bond in the Etowah County Detention Center.
