The Alabama Department of Corrections is preparing for Thursday's execution of George E. Sibley.

Sibley was convicted in the October 1993 killing of Opelika Police Officer Roger Motley. Sibley and his common-law wife, Lynda Lyon Block were convicted of killing Motley, who was shot in a Wal-Mart parking lot after approaching their parked car.

Block was executed at Holman Prison near Atmore on May 10 and became the first woman put to death in Alabama in 45 years.

Corrections Department spokesman Brian Corbett said Sibley had not filed an appeal as of Monday.

Executions in the state for decades had been on Fridays, one minute after midnight. But prison officials moved future executions to Thursdays at 6 p.m.
