Opp Fatality

Several Opp residents are mourning the lives of three friends Tuesday. A head-on collision Friday night killed three loved ones.

Two of the victims were high school athletes and the third person killed was a teacher at a local middle school.

Classes ended early at Opp High School Monday so students, teachers, friends and family could attend Kevin Meeks funeral.

Local clergy and mental health counselors were brought in to speak to students at Opp High School.

Last Friday night, 16-year-old Kevin Meeks and 17-year-old Christen Lea Short were killed when their vehicle collided head-on with a car driven by Opp music teacher Donna Leigh Gallion.

The 54-year-old driver was killed, and her teenage son suffered critical injuries. Joseph Gallion is in stable condition at Children's Hospital in Birmingham.

The accident occurred along Highway 331, a few miles outside of Opp.

The two-vehicle accident remains under investigation.
