Local authorities had quite a scare when the driver of a garbage truck found a Claymore mine. The Claymore mine is a weapon often used by the United States military.
One of the Houston County Sanitation cleaning trucks picked up the device on a route and they called the Houston County Sheriff's Department. The Dothan Police Department's Explosive Unit detonated the device. The device did not have explosives inside, but the police say they treat every incident with extreme caution. Police advise anyone who stumbles across such a device to do the same.
The sanitaion crew is retracing their steps to find the person who possessed the device. And they plan on using this incident as a teaching tool. The Houston County Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident. They don't plan on filing charges because there were no explosives inside the device.
