Property taxes are due by the end of this week.
Houston County Revenue Commissioner Starla Matthews says about 50 percent of the county's ad valorem taxes have been paid so far.
Another big chunk will come in Friday when the Farley Nuclear Plant pays its share of about $7.5 million, or more than 25 percent of the $28 million total.
Late fees and penalties will be assessed against anyone who doesn't pay up by the end of the year.
Anyone over the age of 65 or disabled is eligible for tax exemptions.
