A Colorado teen is turning heads by how much they can lift in the air.

This weightlifter is up to 176-pounds... almost twice their body weight.

Oh yes... did I mention it is an eighth-grade girl?

Corey Rose has more.

She's breaking all the stereotypes

Defying convention. You could say she's kicking butt and taking names.

"I made eight world records."

And set 23 American and state records in a power-lifting competition in Oklahoma City.

"And I remember once I lifted 125 pounds and I was blown away, but now it's like... pssh that's light."

Abbey started weightlifting three years ago. Her dad brought her along one morning to defy Crossfit Gym in Broomfield.

"I did one of the workouts and I loved it, so I started coming."

Now she's hooked.

"Monday, Wednesday, Friday, I wake up at 5:30, and come to the gym and work out til 7. Most kids think it is very weird.
They're like weightlifting isn't a sport... I'm like yeah it is."

Oh did I mention...

"I think if someone would have told me at the beginning of 6th grade that when you are in 8th grade you are going to have eight world records, I wouldn't have believed them."

Abbey is only 13 years old.

"Do you think boys are intimidated by you?"

"Um, when I tell them how much I can lift, most people say, 'I'm not going to mess with you anymore."

"It's been amazing."

Abbey's coach and trainer Jonathon Sabar says there's one key element abbey has that many weightlifters don't.

"I think the reason that Abbey is lifting weights that surpass some adults is that she's never been told for decades that she's limited."

Abbey's goal now, the Olympics, but like superman, even the strongest have their kryptonite.

"Well, bacon is my favorite food."

One she proudly displays and one coach is ok with.

"Bacon is so good and it can definitely fit into a well-rounded Paleo-diet."

Sabar says it's a common misconception that kids and teens shouldn't lift weights.

He says as long as they have the right form and work their way up, there is no health risk to it.
