Voter Identification

New federal laws will soon change elections in Alabama beginning in 2004 -- some first time voters will be required to show identification with their name and address.

Secretary of State Jim Bennett said the move will eventually lead to an Alabama law requiring all voters to show IDs.

The Senate gave final approval to the bill and it now goes to President Bush, who said he will sign it into law.

The bill, prompted by Florida's election problems, won't apply to the Nov. 5 election.
