Alabama's National Guard is preparing for possible war with Iraq and since Alabama's Guard is the fourth largest in the country, many could be called to duty.

Alabama Guard numbers are smaller than in the past, but officials said that will not affect their ability.

More than 5,000 National Guardsmen were called to duty during the Gulf War. That same number could be activated again, but technology is better and fewer people are needed.

An Air National Guard spokesman said it is their job to be ready. National Guard and Reserves make up 52 percent of the military.
