Voter Turnout

Secretary of State Jim Bennett said he expects a "disappointing" 53 percent voter turnout in Alabama for the Nov. 5 election. He said this year's races do not seem to be generating as much excitement as previous contests, including the governor's race.

Bennett also said more people are likely to vote a split-party ticket this year. He said that usually about one-third of voters select candidates from both sides of the ballot, but that even more could do that next week.
