Geneva Airport Fulfilled FAA Requirement

One Wiregrass municipality fulfilled a new requirement issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.

The City of Geneva used federal grant dollars to purchase a mobile home park adjacent to the city airport.

Once the property was acquired, the trailers were moved out and the park was bulldozed.

For safety reasons, the FAA wants a land buffer between a runway and any homes or businesses.

The clean-up cost reportedly came under projected expenditures.

Mayor Simmons says the work has beautified the northern entrance way into town.

At this time, the City of Elba is also involved in buying up a mobile home park and several other properties adjacent to its airport.
