A Year After Stroke, Baxley Plans Pace for PSC President

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Former Lieutenant Governor Lucy Baxley hopes to make a political comeback next year. Baxley lost the race for governor last November and then suffered a stroke.

But she told the Alabama New South Coalition Saturday that she has improved and plans to run next year for president of the Public Service Commission.

Baxley said she's been attending political events and plans to be the first Democratic candidate to sign up when qualifying begins in the new year.

The PSC presidency has been held since 1983 by Republican Jim Sullivan. Sullivan said recently he plans to seek re-election next year.
