Houston County Junior Miss

Nineteen area high school seniors will compete for college scholarships at the Dothan Civic Center Friday. They're vying for the opportunity to represent Houston County as Junior Miss 2002.

Contestants are putting the finishing touches on the opening number and other routines. They'll be judged in the areas of scholastic achievement, interview, physical fitness, talent and poise.

A former Houston County Jr. Miss, Lauren Waid has been the director of the program for the past 13 years. She and other former Junior Misses stress that all participants can benefit from the competition.

Houston County's Junior Miss competition will include two nights of competition at the Dothan Opera House. Friday's competition begins at 6 p.m. and Saturday's competition begins at 7 p.m. The winner will be announced Saturday night.

The winner will represent Houston County in the state competition in January.
