The system became better organized overnight and now packs sustained winds of 40 miles an hour.
For now, Lili is centered about 170 miles southeast of Kingston, Jamaica. There's a tropical storm warning flying for Jamaica.
Lili is moving west-northwest at about seven miles an hour. That's expected to continue, with Lili's center crossing Jamaica Saturday.
Forecasters said Lili is still being affected by some shear, affecting its initial strengthening. But they look for more rapid increase in power early next week. The longer-range forecast shows Lili centered off Cuba's southern coast in 72 hours.
