Toyota Plant

Gov. Don Siegelman is confirming reports that Alabama is among the states pursuing a Toyota factory that is expected to create at least 2,000 jobs.

Workers are already building a new $220 million engine manufacturing plant in Huntsville.

It will be Toyota's first V8 manufacturing facility outside of Japan and will produce engines for the popular Tundra pickup truck.

Siegelman said Alabama will pursue this second plant "with every capability and the full amount of energy we can."

Toyota is considering a site in Jackson County, located in Northweast Alabama. But reports also have indicated the Japanese automaker is most interested in sites in Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi.

Siegelman said Alabama is not out of the hunt.
