A 16-year-old boy shot and killed at an Evergreen nightclub has been identified as Chris Riley, a popular football player at Hillcrest High School.
Sheriff Tracey Hawsey said the shooting happened about 12:30 a.m. Sunday when Riley was hit in the head by a bullet fired during an argument in a crowded nightclub. Hawsey said the weapon was aimed at another person.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
The sheriff said 19-year-old Kenyata Campbell of Atmore was arrested without incident Sunday night and charged with Riley's murder. Campbell's bond is set at $500,000.
The shooting occurred at Club Fantasy, located off County Road 40. An investigation is under way into how the 16-year-old and a handgun were allowed to enter the club.
Hawsey said the unnamed club owner believes the state ABC Board will close his business.
