Holmes County Controversy

A former Northwest Florida teacher accused of having improper sexual contact with students is once again the source of controversy.

Recently, Tim Merchant was hired to succeed his father as Holmes County's new building inspector. The issue caused lots of tension at the last Holmes County Commission meeting.

Two years ago, he lost his teacher certification following allegations of sexual misconduct with fellow teachers and students. The county's insurance company would pay nearly $250,000 to the victims.

The Holmes County Commission has now selected Merchant as its new county building inspector.

Attempts to contact Merchant concerning his hiring as Holmes County's new building inspector proved unsuccessful.

Merchant is under a 90-day probationary period like all new employees.
