Alabama State Troopers say at least five people died in roadway accidents across the state over the 78-hour Christmas holiday travel period.
Troopers said three people died in separate accidents Sunday. One fatality was recorded in Pickens County, two others died in a crash in Butler County.
A Christmas Day accident in Walker County killed one person and troopers said another driver died in a Limestone County wreck on Christmas Eve.
The Department of Public Safety had estimated that 14 people may lose their lives in traffic crashes in the state. The Christmas travel period began at 6 p.m. Thursday and ended at midnight Sunday.
