Alabama residents are still expected to flock to stores the day after Christmas -- even though it falls on a Sunday. Plenty of shoppers are likely to rush to stores to return Christmas gifts, shop for after-Christmas bargains or to use gift cards. Some store owners say they plan to open early tomorrow.
The National Retail Federation says the week after Christmas is one of the busiest seven-day stretches of the retail year and accounts for 10 percent of holiday sales.
Tim Nolan, manager of Colonial Mall Bel Air in Mobile, says it's hard to predict how early shoppers will want to rise to get started tomorrow. Many will be eager to use gift cards and gift certificates that have been big sellers this holiday season.
