The Opp City Council has taken an important step in the repaving of much of the downtown district.
The council passed a resolution which authorizes the Alabama Department of Transportation to begin improvements along College Street.
The five-mile project will extend to the Opp bypass.
The D.O.T. will proceed with the grading, drainage and paving of that section of highway.
The state will eventually do the same work along U.S. Highway 84.
Councilman Mickey Crew says the city has been saving in order to do the paving work which will then be turned over to the state for future maintenance.
