College Funding

A study by the Chronicle of Higher Education showed that Alabama universities ranked third nationally among the 50 states by receiving $89.7 million in money for special projects funneled from congressional lawmakers, bypassing the normal competition for federal funds.

More than $25 million was earmarked for Auburn University, fifth among all colleges in the country. The majority of the money, about $20 million, was allocated to the Center for Transportation Technology, which will study and teach various aspects of the transportation industry.
