Northwest Florida authorities have few answers why a man allegedly killed his stepfather.
Claude Craycraft was fatally stabbed outside Matt Charles Thomas' Cypress Community home, several miles from Marianna.
No one is quite sure why the stabbing took place, but Mr. Thomas is charged with an open-count of murder.
The 32-year-old suspect appeared in court Monday in Marianna and was formally charged with the death of his stepfather.
Authorities say it happened around 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
The 68-year-old victim was reportedly working on Thomas' pump-house when the two men had words.
That’s when the suspect reportedly picked-up a kitchen knife and drove it into Craycraft's abdomen.
Jackson County Judge Woodrow Hatcher denied bond for the defendant.
If convicted of capital murder, he could be sentenced to death by lethal injection.
The case will be given to a Jackson County Grand Jury and the investigation continues.
