A man out on federal parole is charged with a violent attack on his own mother.
The incident led to a standoff with Geneva County authorities.
Sheriff Greg Ward says Michael Lindsey allegedly attacked his mother early Tuesday morning with a machete at her home in the rural Piney Grove Community, several miles outside Samson.
Brenda Tinsley underwent surgery for severe lacerations. Doctors say she is expected to recover.
Authorities say Lindsey barricaded himself inside the house and threatened to shoot them.
After several hours of negotiations, the standoff ended peacefully Tuesday afternoon around one o'clock.
Besides parole violations, Lindsey will now face assault charges.
No motive has been given for the attack.
