Fifty-one-year-old William Vaughn is currently serving two consecutive life sentences for the attack of an elderly woman. He was in a Bonifay courtroom Monday trying to get his sentenced reversed.

Vaughn's attorney said his client didn't realize that he could receive a life sentence for pleading guilty to attempted murder and robbery with a deadly weapon.

The elderly victim said that the hearing re-opens terrifying moments in her life. The 65-year-old Cooley was carjacked from the parking lot of a Geneva business four years ago. Vaughn stabbed her nine times in Holmes County Florida and left her for dead.

Circuit Judge Russell Cole is expected to rule on the motion to overturn the sentence by the end of the week.
