Coyote Problem

Late at night, residents along the Geneva County and Florida line have heard the "high pitch" cry of coyotes.

Over recent weeks, several family pets have reportedly been killed by them.

Samson Mayor Clay King maintains a cattle farm near the Holmes County line.

Last weekend, he found his family's Australian Shepard dog dead near the horse pasture. King says it had been severely mauled to death. He believes a pack of coyotes that are roaming the countryside killed the family pet.

State game officers say the animals appear to be increasing in numbers, but there's never been a reported case where they've attacked a human.

It’s against the law to shoot coyotes at night, or to use poison. If you have any questions, contact your area conservation office.
