Alabama's Quarter

Gov. Don Siegelman unveiled the design for the Alabama state quarter at the Epic School in Birmingham. It will be that of Helen Keller.

Siegelman said Helen Keller, a Tuscumbia native, represents the courage of a state that has come through the civil war and civil rights, and a reminder of the importance of education.

The quarters are released according to when a state entered the Union. Alabama became the 22nd state in December 1819.
