The trial for Reverend Arthur Allen and four other church members charged with excessive spanking of two children during church services will begin Monday.
The Church of Prayer's problems began last year when two of the children in the congregation showed a teacher their injuries.
Eventually 40 children were taken into the custody of the Department of Family and Children Services. All but six children have since been returned to their families.
The Rev. Allen and the other church members to go on trial have refused legal representation, instead choosing to represent themselves. Rev. Allen said faith is on their side.
The trial will be held in Atlanta Superior Court.
