National statistics indicate a downward trend in the number of young people who go to the polls. And many feel voter education is the way to solve that problem.

It could be said that voting is alive and well at Ponce De Leon Elementary School. About 300 kindergarten through sixth-graders cast ballots for school president, vice-president and several other offices.

Actual voting machines were brought to the school by the Holmes County election office.

The third- and fourth-graders also helped the younger children with the actual voting process.
