Flu Vaccine Shortage

By  |

Hundreds of people stood in line this past week for the last 400 doses of flu vaccine at a rural drugstore in Alberta, only to be turned away.

The doses were the last of a shipment of 1,000.

Pharmacies and physicians' offices in Tuscaloosa and Northport reported being almost out of flu vaccine. Many of them had to cancel flu clinics indefinitely.

The government has negotiated a plan with the lone vaccine supplier, Aventis Pasteur, to send the nation's last remaining flu shots directly to places that care for high-risk patients.

But many of them will have to wait until that plan goes through.
