Jury Convicts Man on Child Rape Charge

EVERGREEN, Ala. (AP) - A 60-year-old man has been convicted of child rape and sodomy in a south Alabama case that began on a tip last year from an Atlanta woman.

Jack Wiley was convicted by a jury in Evergreen today in the sexual abuse of his wife's 3-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son.

Sentencing is set for December 14th.

Authorities arrested the couple after Tracie Lee Dean reported her concerns about the little girl she had seen at a convenience store off Interstate 65 in rural Conecuh County in January 2006.

His wife, 42-year-old Glenda Faye Wiley, pleaded guilty to sexual abuse and child abuse and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. She earlier told authorities Jack Wiley is from California.

The girl, now 5, testified by closed-circuit TV, and told prosecutors she remembered "mommie and paw paw" touching her private parts.

In testimony, Wiley denied ever abusing either child, but admitted he used aliases and had been on the run from the law many times in his life.
