A man and woman who received national media attention in an Amber Alert hoax have regained custody of their children after a six-month fight with the Jefferson County Department of Human Resources.
Fify-four-year-old Edgil Eugene Kimbler of Gardendale and his ex-girlfriend, 28-year-old Kasondria "Kassy" Hadley of Jasper were reunited Wednesday afternoon with the five children they said DHR wrongly took away in April.
The couple share three children and Hadley has two sons from a previous relationship. A Bessemer judge heard arguments in the case on Wednesday and found that DHR had no jurisdiction to remove the children.
Hadley also signed an affidavit in April, saying she made up a story accusing Kimbler of following her to Dixon, Missouri, and taking their three children after shooting at her vehicle. That claim activated Alabama's first Amber Alert.
