Panama City Beach Annexation

In the Florida Panhandle, the resort city of Panama City Beach is now 40 percent bigger.

But three citizens said they plan to go to court to challenge the Panama City Beach annexation approved by the city council. In all, the Panama City Beach City Council annexed 2,163 undeveloped acres.

Council members unanimously adopted comprehensive planning and zoning ordinances limiting development of 1,300 of the new acres to single-family homes. The rest of the new land would be mixed use and tourism related.

But opponents said the Panama City Beach annexation said is not compact enough and not enough of it borders existing city limits to meet state annexation requirements.
