The Holmes County Sheriff's Department has made an arrest in a capital sexual battery case involving a seven-year-old girl.
The suspect was arrested Oct. 8 following a criminal investigation, and can now face the death penalty if convicted.
Eric Michael Guynup is 19-years-old, and under Florida State Statute Three, he is now facing the death penalty because in Florida, anyone over the age of 18 who sexually abuses anyone under 12-years-old has committed a capital felony.
After a thorough investigation, Guynup is now in custody at the Holmes County Jail awaiting trial.
A criminal investigation against Guynup was prompted when the victim revealed to the Department of Children and Family Services that he had sexually abused her. Shortly after, law enforcement began investigating and Guynup was apprehended in Chipley.
Law enforcement officials think it's more than likely there are more young victims who were abused by him.
The Holmes County Sheriff's Department would like to urge anyone with any further information, or who has been victimized by Guynup to contact them at 850-547-3681, or contact your local law enforcement agency.
