A Covington County man remains jailed under multiple charges following a high-speed chase that ended in a crash.
Thirty-year-old Daniel Matthews of River Falls faces charges ranging from rape and robbery to kidnapping and assault.
Police say the suspect robbed an Andalusia convenience store, and then forced the female clerk to leave with him. The woman was raped before she managed to escape and get help.
The suspect fled in a car when police tried to arrest him. The chase ended when Matthews lost control of his vehicle on a bridge leading into Downtown Evergreen in neighboring Conecuh County.
Matthews' bond has been set at more than $1 million.
