Jurors have recommended the death penalty for a man convicted of a Houston County home invasion-robbery and murder.

Rex Allen Beckworth was charged with capital murder, along with his stepbrother, James Earl Walker, after 87-year-old Bessie Lee Theat was killed in her Wicksburg home in January of 2000.

The panel took about an hour before convicting Beckworth on Monday. They spent three hours on Tuesday before deciding on the death penalty recommendation.

The final decision will be up to Judge Ed Jackson. Sentencing will be on Nov. 12.

A trial date for James Walker has not been set.
