Perjury and obstruction of justice charges are added to the criminal case against fired HealthSouth chief executive Richard Scrushy. The charges came in a new indictment in the HealthSouth accounting scandal.

Included in a superceding indictment against Scrushy, the charges were announced by the Justice Department as prosecutors consolidated conspiracy and fraud charges, while trimming the counts from 85 to 58.

Scrushy is scheduled for arraignment later today before Federal Magistrate Judge T. Michael Putnam.

He has previously pleaded innocent to charges in the 85-count indictment accusing him of conspiracy, securities fraud and money laundering, among other crimes.

Trial is set for Jan. 5.
