One of the oldest fire stations in the Wiregrass will soon be replaced.
The Geneva City Council agreed to come up with funds to build a state-of-the-art facility.
Geneva Fire Chief Ben Latimer has been a member of the department since 1966 and he has consistently lobbied for a new building. The current station was built in 1912 and there’s hardly any room for fire trucks in it.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has earmarked a $75,000 grant for a new station.
The city will come up with an additional $150,000-to-$200,000.
Groundbreaking on the new building is expected in the next 30-days.
