Shoe Bomb

Court papers from the shoe-bomb suspect tell why he allegedly tried to blow up a plane over the Atlantic last December. The papers said Richard Reid told the FBI that he was angry about the treatment of Muslims in Israel.

When asked why he didn't attack Israel, he said, "America is the problem; without America there would be no Israel."

It also said Reid got the idea when he realized security officers didn't examine the inner soles of his shoes.

Reid reported he acted alone. But the FBI confronted him with evidence that he trained in Afghanistan, and worked with confederates in Europe.
