Beckworth Deliberations Begin

Jurors have begun deliberating the fate of a man accused in the home-invasion robbery and execution-style slaying of an elderly Houston County woman.

A verdict could come sometime Monday afternoon. Rex Allen Beckworth is charged with capital murder along with his stepbrother, James Earl Walker.

Prosecutors are trying to prove the suspects killed 87-year-old Bessie Lee Thweet while ransacking her home for money in January of 2000.

District Attorney Doug Valeska told jurors that Beckworth claims Walker fired the fatal shot. Valeska also said, in the eyes of the law, both men are equally responsible for the woman's death.
