Geneva County Drugs

Crystal-methamphetamine appears to be an epidemic across the Wiregrass. But at the same time, tight budgets mean fewer cops on the beat.

Geneva County has applied for a third year of funding for the Geneva Drug Task Force, but Sheriff Greg Ward fears federal and state dollars may not be available.

The current grant funds three officers, vehicles and equipment. Ward credits his investigators with breaking-up more than 100 drug labs in the last two years.

Ward would like the county to pick up much of the expense if the grant dollars dry up, but at this time, the Board of Commissioners hasn't taken any action on that request.
