Sign-ups for Christmas Assistance are getting ready to take place and the Salvation Army is taking applications.

The Salvation Army is famous for their motto of doing the most good and without their help thousands of families across the Wiregrass would be without food and gifts on Christmas.

"Clothing food for the families toys for the children food for the families we also provide for single mothers for senior citizens” said Captain Bill Kriss of the Salvation Army

Last Christmas the Salvation Army gave food and gifts to over 1700 Wiregrass families. This year they are expecting even greater demand.

"We need more funding the need is always greater than what we have available but somehow god takes what we have and makes it work" remarked Kriss

If you need help this Christmas, sign ups for Houston, Henry and Geneva counties are taking place September 27 through the 30th in the community room of the Salvation Army located at 1007 south bell street in Dothan.

In order to receive assistance you must bring basic I.D. along with your Social Security Card, proof of residence and income.

Salvation Army officials say to make this Christmas special they need your help.

"They can bring donations of new toys and food things like that to either the collections that will be going on around town or to our office or to our office at 1007 South Bell Street and of course monetary donations always help fill the gap” said Kriss.

Now before apply for assistance you are recommended to pick up the complete list of required items to receive assistance at the Salvation Army building on South Bell Street.
