It is an up hill battle for thousands of the locally unemployed. Everyday companies are shedding jobs and employers who are hiring are overrun with resumes.

"it is a brand new day some times four or five hundred especially if it is a really good job and that is the attitude and the perception people need to adopt you are in a competition this is the 4th quarter and the stakes are very high.” Said Lawrence Keener Alfred Saliba Career Center Coordinator

Lawrence keener has spent years helping job seekers get noticed. He says just dressing the part and showing up is not enough.

“when you are applying for a job and don’t have a resume and you are not prepared to display the skills that are required and discuss then and look me dead in the eye with conviction there are two many people to chose from you are not going to have a chance." Remarked Keener

He says your job while being unemployed is to market yourself. Some have even gone as far as posting their resume on the internet.

"Anything you can do to prove to make you stand out and to prove to that employer what is different about you compared to the other 500 people that are trying to get this job that you are competing against. wont hurt" Said Keener

For those seeking jobs, there will be a community job fair on October 19th from 1:00 until 4 p-m at the Dothan Civic Center. Admission is free.
