LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (AP) - An Alabama man died after his boat sank in a Bay County, Florida, lake.
Authorities say Willie Frank Toney Junior was pronounced dead by emergency workers yesterday on the shore of Deer Point Lake, near Panama City.
The cause of death is not known, but investigators do not believe he drowned.
Authorities say the Selma man and his friend, Alvern Colvin, went fishing in separate boats yesterday morning. Toney's 16-foot Sur-Bass was pulled into the lake when its anchor got stuck in the mud and the electric winch malfunctioned.
Authorities say Toney was too heavy for Colvin to pull into his boat.
Colvin told authorities Toney hung on the side of the remaining boat, while Colvin drove it to shore. He told authorities that Toney was wearing a life jacket and his head never went underwater.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
