Forensics Funding

An un-funded state mandate may cause some difficulties for local law enforcement agencies.

As of last Friday, the State Department of Forensic Science will no longer provide transportation for bodies needing autopsies. It's now up to the individual counties to take on that task.

But small staffs and limited funding make the job difficult for local authorities.

An autopsy is usually ordered in cases of homicides, unattended deaths, suicides and traffic fatalities that may have involved alcohol.
